Calendar of Community Events

All community groups and 'not for profit' organisations throughout the Parish are welcome to submit information regarding their forthcoming events, and we will be pleased to include them on the list below free of charge.  Please allow 7 days before the event, if possible.  We will also display any information notices. However, we cannot display notices of a commercial or political nature.

Blood Donation Sessions:

Blood donations are always needed to help accident victims and also those affected by long-term terminal disorders.  There are lots of opportunities to give blood at a variety of venues across the area.  Details of specific sessions will be uploaded here as we become aware of them.  For more information or to book an appointment please visit: http://www.blood.co.uk or Tel: 0300 123 123

Kirkheaton Family History Talk "Denby Dale Typhoid Tragedy of 1932"  at 7.30pm on 24 May at Kirkheaton Community Centre The presentation will be delivered by Local Historian, John Brooke.  Entrance £2.50 inc light refreshments.

10th Kirkburton Beer Festival : 25 & 26 May at the Kirkburton Uniformed Group HQ, Hallas Road in Kirkburton

On Friday evening there will be a "Pub Night" with pie & peas, quizzes and entertainment. On Saturday there will be a Village Fayre from 2pm - 6pm with a variety of stalls, burgers & hot dogs, plus live music and entertainment. There will be 30 barrels of real ale available throughout the event, as well as ciders, wine, prosecco and soft drinks. See the Facebook page and Twitter feed for updates.


Kirkheaton Arts Festival 26 - 28 May at St John's Church

This popular event is returning. It is a free to enter, community event and is a great way to showcase your hobby, job or skill. It is free to register and display your work. Local artists are strongly encouraged to join in and let the local community enjoy your work. Further details including registration forms can be obtained from Claire in the Parish Office. Lepton Gala on 28 May at Lepton Square and Recreation Ground from 12 noon to 4pm
Lots of attractions for all ages including face painting, Find a Bottle of Wine stall, Bouncy Castle. The Wise Birds of Prey Rescue Centre will also be there with some of their birds. The Sun BBQ & Licensed Bar, A2D All Stars Cheerleading Troop and much more! Full details from the poster.



Emley & Flockton Open Gardens : 7 and 8 July from 12 noon to 5pm
A quality selection of 17 gardens will be open between the two villages. There are cottage gardens, formal bedding displays, vegetable plots, wildlife friendly gardens and ponds, spectacular herbaceous borders plus a National Garden Scheme show-stopper. Proceeds from the event will go to St Michael's at Emley and St James' at Flockton. Refreshments and toilets will be available at both churches. Programmes £5 each available from either of the churches.

Shelley Village Gala : 15 July from 1.30 to 4.30 at Shelley Cricket Club
The King & Queen Procession will start from the Flying Ferret car park at 1pm. All welcome. The fancy dress theme this year is 'The Football World Cup' and there's a prize for everyone. The idea is to have a fun event and raise money for village groups. If you would like a stall or have any other great ideas, please get in touch with the committee.
